Notable brands by manufacturer, country, and website. Out of the group, Japanese made knives are purported to be the best with regard to excellent craftsmanship (e.g. design, easy use, sharpness out of the box, and the ability to hold their edge).
These knife manufacturers are not placed in order their notability. Although partially subjective, I have chosen the knife brands based both on my personal experience with them over the years as well as other online and print reviews.
